The number of bunkers in Germany has been reduced from 2,000 to 600 since the Cold War, but they are now unusable. According to RBC, this was reported by the German media with reference to the document of the Conference of the Ministries of the Interior of the federal lands of Germany.

According to the department, if necessary, the remaining bunkers can be “reactivated”. In addition, metro stations and underground parking lots are considered as possible shelters.

According to the media, the German authorities are looking for ways to improve the situation. In particular, the option of developing a “modern shelter concept” is being considered, as well as taking measures to strengthen the structures of residential and commercial buildings, for example, in case of explosions.

In addition, the document proposed to pay attention to the development of instructions for citizens on behavior during emergencies. “Germans who are accustomed to peace should receive clear instructions from the government on how to behave during war and crises,” the German media say.
