Washington decided to stop, with a few exceptions, the temporary resettlement of Afghans to the United States. According to Reuters, this was announced at a special briefing by a senior official of the US administration.

According to him, Washington will stop the temporary resettlement of those Afghans who do not have the possibility of gaining legal status of residence in the United States in the future, RBC reports.

However, the official made clear, the federal government’s priority would be Afghans who have relatives in the United States with citizenship, residency or a special immigration visa.

We also recall that at the end of August, the UN humanitarian coordinator in Afghanistan, Ramiz Alakbarov, said that the economic situation in Afghanistan had deteriorated significantly after the withdrawal of the United States and its allies.

According to him, currently the country “does not have a functioning banking system, there is no functioning, well-connected economy.” “Everything is interrupted. In this regard, there is a decline,” the coordinator emphasized.

He explained that the lack of economic activity and the basic economy in the country increases the burden on the humanitarian sector. At the same time, the international presence in Afghanistan has significantly decreased compared to what it was a year ago, Alakbarov complained.

We add that the Taliban terrorist organization, banned in Russia, came to power in Afghanistan on August 15, 2021, after a coup d’etat and the overthrow of the current head of state, Ashraf Ghani. A few days later, Washington closed the Taliban access to the accounts of the Afghan government, which are managed by the Fed and other US financial institutions. Six months later, US President Joe Biden blocked Afghan assets in the US financial system. At the same time, about half of the assets – $ 3.5 billion were unfrozen for further transfer to the Afghans as humanitarian aid.
