After a police pursuit that took place on the night of this Monday, November 14, two men were apprehended simultaneously: one in Durán and the other in Guayaquil.
Both were traveling in cars and, according to the Police, they are suspected of selling and transporting explosive material for military use and C4 material of US origin.
Police seized 1.8 tons of drugs valued at nearly $120 million in Europe and the United States
One of the detainees is an active servant of the Ecuadorian Customs and the other apprehended does not have a criminal record, but does have legal proceedings, the Police indicated.
The material seized during the arrests included 20 kilos of C4 explosive material, 20 percussion caps and 20 fuses. There are also two vehicles retained.
Police officers plan to trace the confiscated items in order to identify the origin and distributors to whom the material has been delivered.
A relative of former soccer player Frickson Erazo was murdered in Esmeraldas
Benjamín Molina, head of the National Firearms and Explosives Trafficking Unit, mentioned to the television ecuavisa that the confiscated material is for exclusive military use.
These apprehensions and confiscations occur in a month in which several attacks with explosives have been registered in different locations in the country, including Guayaquil and Durán, after the transfer of a group of prisoners from the Litoral Penitentiary to the El Rodeo prison, in Manabi.
As a result of these attacks, a state of emergency is in force with a curfew between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. in Guayas, Esmeraldas and Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas. (YO)
