As Edwin Benavídez Moreno, 50, the driver who died after receiving a bullet to the head and subsequent crash of his vehicle into the wall of an educational unit in the city of Esmeraldas was identified.
The attack occurred this Friday the 14th on José Joaquín de Olmedo and Manuel Muriel avenues, a sector of the Esmeraldas municipal market. The driver lived in this place and apparently criminals tried to rob him with a firearm.
Benavídez accelerated his private taxi service vehicle with the intention of evading the criminals and crashed head-on with the wall of the school in the same sector.
The wounded man was taken to the Las Palmas type C hospital, but due to his clinical picture he was transferred to the Delfina Torres south hospital, where he died.
