The Australian Institute for Economics and Peace has released the Global Peace Index for 2022. The rating includes 163 countries.
Iceland is recognized as the most peaceful. It is followed by New Zealand and Ireland. Also in the top ten were Denmark, Austria, Portugal, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Singapore and Japan.
The least peaceful this year are Syria (161), Yemen (162) and Afghanistan (163). And right above Syria is Russia, which last year was a few points more “peaceful.”
Note that the Russian Federation in the list is in the “red”, non-peaceful zone. At the same time, the United States took 129th place, and Ukraine is located on the 153rd (this is also a “red” zone).
Recall that the Global Peace Index was developed by sociologists and economists from the international group of experts of the Peace Institute together with the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Sydney.
This index was first calculated in May 2007. It was stated that it is an attempt to rank countries around the world in terms of living security, and takes into account both internal factors, such as the level of violence in the country and crime, and external ones, such as the country’s international relations, military spending and other parameters.
