Dressed in uniforms similar to those used by the police, about 40 armed men arrived in three trucks and a van at a warehouse belonging to the Ministry of the Interior where the drugs seized in the operations are stored.
It happened at 7:40 p.m. this Sunday, July 24, at kilometer 7 of the road to Daule, in the north of Guayaquil, and in a matter of minutes a criminal operation began to try to steal the drug blocks.
The police guarding the warehouse were waiting for their relief when they saw the false police arrive, who pretended to arrive from an operation loaded with more drugs. Supposedly they were going to enter to leave the alkaloid, but they were discovered.
At that time, the criminals managed to neutralize the uniformed men who were guarding the entrance; They handcuffed them and took their weapons. But, when they tried to enter the warehouse to access the cocaine, the alarms jumped.
A silent alarm alerted the nearby units and another that did sound alerted the criminals, who fled, according to General Fausto Salinas, Police Commander General.
After the notification to the units began in the northwest and minutes later in the South Bastion 3 circuit, a suspicious truck was detected, both a car from an Order Maintenance Unit (UMO) and the police from the Mobile Unit of the sector arrived to the point, where a shootout began after at least fifteen armed men got out of the truck.
One of the suspects was injured and was captured. The rest managed to flee. No police officers injured.
On the morning of this Monday, July 25, there was a military and police guard outside the warehouse. In addition, GOE divers checked a channel near the warehouse to find out if those who fled through the area had abandoned any weapons or clothing that could be used for the investigations.

General Salinas explained that an investigation has already been opened in this case with the Prosecutor’s Office. He said that the only person arrested has ten records for robbery and illicit association; In addition, he has several open investigations.
“In Santa Elena he was detained until a few months ago for illicit association, but he managed to get out thanks to a habeas corpus that they granted him for supposed health problems, but here we have him stealing”, commented the commander.
He clarified that the criminals were unable to access the drug; that there would be little quantity stored in the place, because this week there has been a burning.
In addition, he confirmed that the thieves did take eight weapons provided by the uniformed men who protected the premises and assured that security will be strengthened at the site.
Given the possibility that a police officer is involved, General Salinas said that they will be tried like any criminal. (YO)
