At 6:00 p.m. on July 18, we are 18 million Ecuadorians, according to the INEC population projection

The National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC) announced that Ecuador reached the figure of 18 million people, according to population projections.

The projections are an instrument that allows demographic planning as well as economic, social and political planning of the country, which leads to different scenarios. They are simulated data where the base population of the previous year is taken into account, as well as births and immigrants, and deaths and emigrants in the year of study are subtracted.

From October, with the ‘online’ modality, the first stage of the population, housing and community census will start

These projections are based on the last census, which was carried out in 2010. This year, a new census is scheduled to be carried out between November and December, which will be the eighth population census and the seventh housing census.

Precisely the INEC detailed that at 18:00 the figure of 18 million Ecuadorians was reached, almost an hour later the figure had increased to only 11 more people.

By 2050, Ecuador plans to reach a population of 23.4 million people, while by 2030 generational replacement will not be guaranteed since women of childbearing age will have fewer than two children. In 2020, the population was projected to reach 17.5 million inhabitants. (YO)
