Yesterday, a day before one month passed since the assassination of the presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio, the councilor of Durán Bolívar Vera, whose kidnapping took place last Thursday, was found dead.

Ecuadorians demand that the punishments of those responsible for the terrible crimes that have overwhelmed the society count, not the months and years of crimes committed by politicians, traders, businessmen and even children.

‘Enough is enough that they continue to kill us and do not take radical actions!’ is the reaction of the municipality of Durán after the murder of councilor Bolívar Vera

The municipality of Durán sent President Guillermo Lasso a scathing letter claiming that at least 30 murders have been recorded since the state of emergency decree in the canton on July 24. Also Rosita Saldarriaga, wife of Agustín Intriago (Mayor of Manta), who demanded on July 23 that there should be no mercy for those who killed her life partner, continues to add up the days of absence, she even reminded on August 28 on the networks that they should celebrate eleven years of their connections.

The pain of the families of crime victims becomes stronger when there is impunity. Lack of justice is a double crime.

In the case of Fernando Villavicencio, there were operations on the night of September 7, two arrests, and the Public Ministry recommended political actors and citizens “to be careful with information management.”

The four prisoners would be part of the new detainees for the murder of Fernando Villavicenci

It is right to ask that misinformation not be created, because of this and other murders, but we understand the position of the injured who demand, as the whole country demands, swift justice.

Citizens’ trust is created by actions, but today it is also violated. Precautionary measures are judicial tools that must be used responsibly. It is infamous that criminals who are at large are caught under this figure. If legal changes are needed, they must be made and the judges are the first to ask for them. The judicial branch stands on the foundations of public trust that will only be restored when there is justice for Fernando, for Agustín, for Bolívar and all the victims of organized crime. (OR)
