A spherical object with a strange golden color and silky texture was found at the bottom of the sea near the coast of Alaska.

Known as a “golden egg,” this object was discovered during the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Seascape Alaska 5 expedition at a depth of 1.9 miles.

Oceans are reaching record temperatures, according to the European Union’s Climate Observatory

“This golden sphere, probably the shell of an egg, struck a chord with many viewers yesterday,” NOAA said on its social profiles.

Using a remote-controlled robotic arm, the researchers managed to extract a sample of the curious ball to find out what it is.

In an interview with the Miami Herald, one of the scientists explained, “If our collective knowledge can’t identify it, it’s kind of weird,” referring to the golden orb.

Expedition researchers are currently conducting DNA tests to determine which animal the suspected eggshell belongs to, and what they discover could reveal more about the marine life.

The Seascape Alaska 5 Expedition will remain active until September 16. You can watch the live stream on Youtube. (JO)
