The Navarrese writer Castillo Suarez Garcia has read this Saturday in alsasua his admission speech in Euskaltzaindia, the Royal Academy of the Basque Language, as established by internal regulations. She was named academic number in the year 2022 and, as usual, along with her appointment, it is up to the academics to prepare her admission speech. Most of the time they do it in her native towns.

The Academy held a plenary session at 10:00 a.m. at the Alsasua Town Hall and, later, accompanied by the local txistularis, the procession of authorities arrived at the Iortia Cultural Center, at the same time as the ringing of the bells of Alsasua. To start the institutional act, the mayor of Alsasua, Javier Ollo, welcomed those present, together with the president of the Academy, Andrés Urrutia. With the collaboration of the musicians Sahatsa eta Pi and Juantxo Zeberio, the event took place in the presence of 150 academics, authorities and citizens.

Castillo Suarez has arrived by the hand of Sagrario Aleman and Miren Agur Meabe to deliver his introductory speech. The books of poems that have influenced his life, strung together through a “very special” herbalist, have composed a personal anthology titled ‘The botany of love’. “The selected plants have shown, throughout the speech, the characteristics of the poetics of the writer, such as the courage to write, political awareness, memory, lexicography, the desire for subsistence…”, she explained. in a note Euskaltzaindia.

Miren Agur Meabe has responded with an epistolary speech raised as “an intimate reflection on poetics and aesthetics”, making reference to some of the themes of the Navarrese poet -loss, loneliness, love, pain, work , resistance- and relating them to passages from writers from around the world such as Emily Dickinson.

Lastly, the new member of Euskaltzaindia has sworn to fulfill “the goals and purposes of the Academy and the functions that have been assigned to her as a member of it, loyally and honestly” and has collected the medal, diploma and insignia from the president of the the Academy, Andres Urrutia. At the end of the act, in a relaxed atmosphere, the attendees have danced the Zortziko de Alsasua.
