The head of the IIHF apologized for the absence of Michkov’s name in the text about the upcoming NHL draft

President of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Luc Tardif apologized for the absence of the name of the Russian Matvey Michkov in the text about the upcoming draft of the National Hockey League (NHL). It is reported by “Sport-Express”.

“It was a mistake. Since Russia and Belarus do not take an active part in the activities of the IIHF, the author made this choice. I personally asked the author of the material to briefly and diplomatically add Michkov there, ”said Tardif.

The text on the IIHF website about the NHL Draft came out earlier on June 27. The draft pick is Canadian Connor Bedard. The IIHF spoke about fellow countryman Adam Fantilli and Swede Leo Karlsson, who are expected to be in the top three of the draft, as well as other players. Michkov was not among them.

18-year-old Michkov played for Sochi on loan in the 2022/2023 season. In total, he played 27 games for the team in the regular season of the Continental Hockey League. In them, the forward scored 9 goals and gave 11 assists. Michkov became the second in the ranking of European players ahead of the NHL draft.

The NHL Draft will take place in Nashville on June 28 and 29. At the annual event, league clubs secure the rights to young hockey players aged 18 to 21.
