The bladder is the hollow organ that stores urine in the lower abdomen. The bladder also contains the cells that give rise to one of the types of cancer more common.

Bladder cancer is usually detected in its early stages, as its symptoms are obvious. The most common sign is presence of blood in the urine, something known as hematuria. This can cause urine to turn orange, pink, and even dark red.

What is the MCLA-158 antibody for fighting cancer?

However, hematuria is not always constant. Sometimes there may be blood in the urine one day and not the next. Other times, the urine appears the normal color, but there are still traces of blood.

Other symptoms of bladder cancer also include burning or difficulty passing urine, feeling the urge to urinate even when the bladder is not full, and having a weak flow of urine. Back pain can also be an indicator of bladder problems.

The American Cancer Society lists symptoms of more advanced bladder cancer:

  • not being able to urinate
  • Pain on one side of the lower back
  • Loss of appetite and weight loss
  • Tiredness or weakness
  • swollen feet
  • Bone pain

Since several of these symptoms can be caused by different pathologies, it is necessary to see a doctor if there is suspicion that there may be bladder cancer.
