This summer, the Temple of Debod (Madrid) turns half a century. The historic monument arrived stone by stone in Madrid and has nearly 2,200 years oldbeing visited by about 300 people every day and more than 45,000 people in the last year.
The truth is that many people do not know the history behind this Egyptian temple. In the 60s, 90 trucks transported 1,350 boxes with the stones of the monument to save it from being submerged in the construction of a dam on the Nile River.
The reconstruction work was carried out in the mount of Prince Pio, which was still recovering from the bombings it suffered in the Civil War. Now, pollution and extreme temperatures are eroding and endangering the monument.
The pond on the platform that supports it recreates its original atmosphere, just like its orientation to the west, which allows you to watch the sunset. Those sunsets are what give life to one of the most iconic areas of Madrid, more than 20 centuries of history that have been enjoyed for 50 years in the capital.
