The Madrid City Council blames the promoter of ‘Puro Reggaeton’ for not presenting the necessary licenses or authorizations

The delegate for Culture, Tourism and Sports of the Madrid City Council, Andrea Levisaid today about the cancellation of the festival ‘Puro Reggaeton that “if an event does not guarantee security measures and does not present the required licenses and authorizations, or City Council or Community of Madrid they cannot authorize it nor will they ever authorize it”.

In this sense, Levy has remarked that “that is what has happened with this festival”, where the Municipal police of Madrid “has denied that authorization because it does not see that the security measures are complied with.” He has pointed out that the City Council sympathize with all those people who had purchased their tickets previously, with all the singers that they were going to act, with the workers that they were going to be working on these days of the festival, but he stressed that “this promoter did not present authorizations and licenses that were necessary.”

He also stressed that both the City Council and the Community of Madrid are working together so that Madrid can hold cultural and sports shows “that are safe”, because “culture is safe and we demonstrated it in a pandemic.” The delegate pointed out that both in this event and in the others, “Madrid wants to be a reference, and last week we had the MADO and the Mad Cool that were held without any incidents”, and that the institutions must ensure “that all the licenses are presented by the promoters so that there is no no negative consequences that we should later regret”.

Therefore, Levy stressed that what the City Council and the Community of Madrid have done is to ensure the safety of events and “we will always do it”, because “Madrid wants to hold events and wants to be a reference in holding events , but that these occur without any negative consequences and with all the security measures ”.

Regrets the “negative consequences” that it has had for those who have previously purchased the tickets, the workers and the singers, but “it is the promoter’s responsibility to have the authorizations and licenses ahead of time and present them to the administrations”, because “the City Council and the Community are only there to ensure by event security and to promote and advertise Madrid as safe cultural destination”.

festival table

To prevent this situation from happening again, Levy has said that the Madrid City Council is going to create in September the Festival Table “to listen to what their demands are, to make an evaluation of what those obstacles have been when it comes to celebrating these events, the problems they have faced and trying to ensure that there is perfect coordination between music promoters and institutions in Madrid”. And furthermore, to find out what those administrative authorizations and procedures are that can be streamlined, and to see how the sector grows sustainably “so that Madrid does not create a fake festival bubble music and we can have a music sector in Madrid that responds to the demands of the public”.

For this reason, he highlighted the creation of this Festivals Board “to evaluate the sector, evaluate the problem, to avoid artificial bubbles in Madrid and to grow steadily with the cultural fabric of Madrid”.
