“Johnny” in the Main Competition of the 47th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia
– I wrote this story so that even the most depressed person would believe that a new, good life can begin in unimaginable, extreme circumstances. It is a story about a victory for life and love. A true story – emphasized screenwriter Maciej Kraszewski.
Patrick breaks into a house in a small town. The court’s sentence orders him to work in a hospice in Puck, where he meets an extraordinary Fr. Jan Kaczkowski. The clergyman engages young boys from the vocational school, seemingly tough rebels, to help the sick. In his work, he focuses on closeness, tenderness and the fight for relationships with other people. It teaches empathy. And he does it with a wholesome amount of humor, which is gaining immense popularity. Soon after, Jan himself faces the challenge of fighting the disease. Patryk is put in a situation that will change his whole life.
– This is a film about Patryk Galewski, who from his perspective tells about priest Jan Kaczkowski. And as we know, when someone tells their memories, they like to color it and introduce elements of surrealism that are very dear to me. In our film, we do not adhere to the naturalism common in Polish cinema. We play with the form, we play with music videos that are very close to me for obvious reasons, we play with music, but most of all we paraphrase this story. We often color something, we lie a bit just to kidnap the viewer and give him a rollercoaster of emotions. Lest it be that people will come and be prepared, that this is a sad movie. Hell, this is an absolutely cheerful film and this is its assumption that viewers will have a great time in it – said Daniel Jaroszek, the film’s director, in an interview with Gazeta.pl.
The role of priest Jan Kaczkowski is played by Dawid Ogrodnik.
John’s uniqueness was, in this good sense, a straightforward look at religion, which is primarily based on respect, not being contemptible with human beings and what is most important, that is, acting as a result of and as a result of love for another human being.
Patryk Galewski will be played by Piotr Trojan. On the screen we will also see, among others Magdalena Czerwińska, Anna Dymna, Maria Pakulnis, Marta Stalmierska, Witold Dębicki, Michał Kaleta and Joachim Lama.
