The awards ceremony will be held in the autumn in Donostia, at Tabakalera.
The jury for this year’s Gure Artea awards, chaired by Jesús Mari Lazkano, has highlighted that Mari Puri Herrero She deserves recognition for her “extensive work and for her extraordinary artistic quality. She is a unique creator: painter, engraver and sculptor whose work arises both from imaginary reflection and impressionist immediacy”.
The jury underlines that “her cultural heritage and attentive interest in the contemporary make her one of the key figures for understanding 20th-century Basque art. Mari Puri Herrero is part of the generation that promoted an era of artistic transition characterized by coexistence between traditional forms and avant-garde aspirations”.
On Nora Aurrekoetxeathe jury explained that she is one of the “main representatives of current Basque sculpture. Her work effectively intertwines the different disciplines in which she has been trained (Fine Arts, Psychology and Sexology) in an attempt to delve into the of human relationships and their interaction with the intimate space. Their results avoid offering closed conclusions in order to promote the plurality of meanings and readings”.
The Bilbao-based contemporary art production company and specialist publisher, Consonniwill receive the Gure Artea award for recognition of activities carried out by different agents in the field of plastic and visual arts because its essence is, in the opinion of the jury, the “production of critical culture”.
In the argumentation of its decision, the jury highlights that Consonni “emerged in 1996 and has been producing critical culture from different supports and in multiple and diverse contexts. From art as an expanded field, literature, radio or education, generating and promoting hundreds of activities, relating agents of the context, audiences and artists from an expanded territorial perspective, aesthetics, politics, in relation to the field of art and its different aspects. It was born with the intention of supporting the production processes of artists, in close complicity with them and them, and the conjunctural circumstances of the processes, generating a code of thinking, doing together, producing, accompanying, teaching, archiving and relating”.
