Ecuadorian book that celebrates fanesca wins at the Gourmand Awards, known as the ‘Oscar’ of gastronomy

Ecuador competed in this category with 16 other countries in the world, such as Zambia, Uruguay, Syria, Spain, Singapore, Israel, Germany, among others. “This recognition fills us with satisfaction and renews our commitment to highlight the editorial work, knowledge and culture of our country”, declared the university itself on its Twitter account.

In its 116 pages, the book fuses literary stories with photographs about the fanesca celebration.

“A book made with exemplary dedication, threaded between the vindication of our cultural and identity heritage, the inquisition in history and, more than anything, with deep affection for the nurturing land and with a feeling of nostalgia”writes the novelist Francisco Proaño Arandi.

The work brings together the work of ten authors, among whom are Manuela Gallegos, María Paz Chacón, Andrés Eduardo Ambuludi, Ingryd Miranda Cárdenas, Luciano Moreno Aldaz and others.

“The particular emphasis that the authors place on the traditional, the ancestral, and on the continuity of family customs is related to almost all of these texts”adds Proaño in his text.

Every year the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards reward the best gastronomy and wine books, printed or digital, as well as gastronomic television.

The Gourmand Awards have been compared to the ‘Oscars’ of cinema. They are inspired by the Olympic Games and their spirit. “The Gourmand Awards are a unique opportunity to build the image of a country’s food culture, to show the world its spirit”, described on their official page. (YO)
