Paula Bonet’s stalker alleges an “erotic-maniacal” disorder and that his threats were part of “a literary game”

Victor. GT, the man accused of threatening and harassing the illustrator and writer Paula Bonet for two years, has asked for her acquittal alleging that he suffers from an “erotic-manic” mental disorder and has argued that his persecution of the artist was a mere ” literary game. In the criminal court number 10 of Barcelona, the trial against the alleged stalker of the artist has been seen for sentencing, for whom the Prosecutor’s Office asks for three years in prison and a fine of 4,800 euros for crimes of coercion and threats, in addition to another continued breach of precautionary measure.

The private prosecution exercised by Bonet asks for eight years in prison and a fine of 8,600 euros for the alleged stalker, who has been in preventive detention twice for these events and was released last month, a few weeks before the trial, which led the artist to announce that she would restrict her public agenda to preserve her safety. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, since July 2019, the man appeared repeatedly at the doors of the Barcelona workshop where the artist worked -where he even stuck his lips and hands on the glass and hit it insistently- and chased her in the streets. presentations, exhibitions, concerts and public events that he attended.

Later, adds the public ministry, he sent her emails to claim her attention and maintain a love relationship with her, he sent her a note in an envelope with the letter “V” and the text “the rapist” and sent him messages on Twitter in who threatened to strangle and dismember her. The defendant’s defense has requested her acquittal and has argued that VGT suffers from an “erotic-manic” mental disorder in order to reduce his sentence totally or partially, which he has tried to endorse with a psychological expert test on the part.

In his statement before the judge, the defendant has framed his persecution of Bonet in a “literary game” and a “battle of roosters” to impose their “newspeak”, while he has assured that the artist “threw him the hook” and that he approached her attracted by her works and her feminist postulates. Regarding the threats he made against the victim on Twitter, he assured that those messages were “black bile” of “macabre sarcastic inspiration” due to the social “lynching” to which he was subjected once the artist publicly denounced the alleged harassment he suffered.

The trial has been held behind closed doors, at the request of the private prosecution exercised by Bonet, although the defendant’s defense has tried, without success, for the hearing to be public and for the artist to testify without a screen to avoid visual confrontation with him. For Carla Vall, the writer’s lawyer, the objective of that request that the judge has rejected is “to be able to intimidate” the victim. In fact, he added, during the trial the defendant has been looking “fixedly” at all times at the area where the woman was. The attorney for the accusation, Carla Vall, has assured that the fact that the accused presents himself “as a victim” is an argument that is usually used “by the misogynistic extreme right” and has highlighted that there is no complaint of threats or aggression by the alleged “lynching” that Víctor GT claims to have suffered. The lawyer has highlighted that the defendant has another criminal investigation open for a case of alleged harassment of another woman very similar to the one Bonet suffered.
