How to keep an electric vehicle in good condition

Although electric cars continue to account for a very small part of the Ecuadorian mobile fleet, they are becoming a clear purchase alternative to internal combustion vehicles, especially in large cities.

Alejandro Granja, Nissan After-sales deputy director, explains that in an electric vehicle, everything related to a gasoline or diesel combustion engine is excluded from maintenance, that is, lubricants, filters, engine ABC, additives, belts, pulleys, spark plugs. , fuel pump and other related components.

“This decrease in work routines means that the vehicle requires a revision every 10,000 km of the mechanical parts such as brakes, steering, alignment and balancing, tires, gear body that corresponds to the operation of the transmission, among others. Additionally, every 10,000 km the entire electrical and electronic part of the vehicle is checked to verify the condition of its components and the performance of the lithium battery.”

The main element of electric vehicles is the lithium battery, which in the case of Nissan has a guarantee of eight years or 160,000 kilometers. To guarantee and extend its useful life, Granja recommends carrying out full charge and discharge cycles, that is, starting the charge when the percentage of the battery is at 15% and completing the charge up to 100%.

Pedro Merizalde, an automotive engineer, explains that there are some maintenance activities that are carried out on both combustion and electric vehicles, for example: brake replacement, air conditioning trim, replacement of brake pads, shock absorbers, among others. “The change of these components must be carried out according to the wear and driving characteristics of each user.”
