Antytila is one of the most popular music groups in Ukraine, but when Russia invaded Ukraine from several sides in February this year, it stopped its artistic activity and now the musicians are fighting to defend the country. They made an exception for this song. – Ed has a lot of sympathy for Ukraine – they emphasize in an interview with the BBC.
– Ed’s proposal to record a joint song is another token of support from the people of Great Britain and an unprecedented act that guarantees a great impact. We are soldiers now, it was not easy for us to create and record Ukrainian lyrics and vocals in the studio. In addition, the Bobina Records studio, where we usually recorded our own songs, was in the occupied territory, but thanks to Maxim Sivolap, our friend and permanent co-author and arranger of many songs, we managed, recall the Ukrainian musicians.

The text of the song was written by one of the members of the band Taras Topol, who served as a medic in Borodzianka, a town particularly affected and destroyed by the actions of Russian troops. Some of the scenes were filmed on the front line in Kharkiv. – We just stopped for a moment and shot in the middle of nowhere – the artists recall.
– In the Ukrainian lyrics of the song “2Step” by Ed Sheeran, I decided to tell my own story about how the war started for my family. And this is not only my story, it is the story of millions of Ukrainians whose families have been separated, sometimes forever, about terrible bombings and war – said Taras Topol.

The video itself is dedicated to the memory of the Ukrainian director Dmytro Manifesta, whose life ended too early. His friend Dmytro Shmurak was responsible for directing and producing the video. – There are people who are ready to follow you into the fire and jump into the water. It was thanks to our friendship with the Manifesto that it became clear to me that there is no point in doing something without conviction. Life is very confusing, so when the Antytila team asked me for support, as well as to produce and shoot the film, I immediately agreed, although I realized it was a very difficult task. My team and I did our best to make the job a success. If Dima was alive, he would definitely be with us on the set. I just want to tell the boys one thing – come back alive! – says Szmurak.
