The Bilbao Symphony Orchestra presented this morning to journalists its next season, 2022/2023, which will open on October 6 with the second symphony by the Ukrainian composer Reinhold Glière, “the most important that the city of kyiv has produced” according to the chief conductor of the orchestral group from Bilbao Erik Nielsen, and Bruckner’s Ninth Symphony.

During the new season, the BOS will continue to celebrate the centenary of its creation, which has presided over the entire programming of its current season, which closes on June 10 with a concert by maestro Joaquín Achucarro, with three “popular” programs, dedicated to the txistu, the Bilbao Music Band and film music, with the soundtrack of the film trilogy of “The Lord of the Rings”.

Likewise, during the new season the value of the music of Basque composers will continue with the interpretation of two other symphonic poems by Andrés Isasi, Die Sünde and Zharufa, and the premiere of the Piano Concerto by Gabriel Erkoreka, commissioned by the BOS for the occasion, a concert that will close the season on June 12, 2023.

Lovers of classical music will also be able to enjoy Mozart’s Requiem, conducted by the baton of Maasaki Suzuki, an institution in the classical repertoire, and the voices of the Orfeón Pamplonés and the concert offered by the organization Brass for Africa, which with the collaboration of great musicians such as Wynton Marsalis or Alison Balsom, has been transforming the lives of hundreds of young people in Uganda, Liberia and Rwanda through musical practice for more than ten years.

In total there will be 17 symphonic music programs, with 34 concerts and 31 guest soloists and conductors in a season that the general director of the orchestral group, Ibon Aranbarri, has defined as “eclectic” and full of novelties and works from great repertoires.
