This is the GI Jane movie Will Smith was furious about
The film GI Jane, directed by Ridley Scott, was released in 1997 starring Demi Moore, Viggo Mortensen, and Anne Bancroft in the lead roles. The plot revolves around Jordan O’Neil, a Navy Seal.
Moore played Lieutenant O’Nel. The actress had to undergo an arduous training with the Navy Seal to be able to get along with the character, in addition, she decided to shave her head and became an icon of cinema, El Comercio reported.
For this reason, comedian Chris Rock joked with Will Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, to whom he said “Jada, I can’t wait for GI Jane 2”, because of her buzz cut.
“Get my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth!”
The “Men in Blacks” actor did not find Rock’s joke funny at all, much less his wife, who showed her annoyance by moving her eyes as a sign of the uncomfortable words.
Seconds later, Smith walked onstage and slapped Rock, who in surprise said, “Oh wow,” as Will returned to his chair. “Will Smith just beat the crap out of me,” he continued.
Already in his seat, Smith yelled at the comedian: “Get my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth!”, to which he explained that it was just a joke and the “I’m Legend” actor repeated more emphatically: ” Get my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth!”
Will Smith’s emotional speech upon receiving his Oscar, overshadowed by his assault on Chris Rock
“That was the best night in the history of television,” Rock joked before announcing the nominees for Best Documentary.
All those present were uncomfortable at the moment of tension. Both the Academy and the Los Angeles police condemned the incident.
On the other hand, the interpreter apologized in his acceptance speech when he won the Oscar for Best Actor. “I want to apologize to the Academy. I want to apologize to all my fellow nominees. I hope the Academy invites me again”. (AND)
