Russia depends on supplies from abroad

Igor Pletnev notes that the dependence of the Russian market on supplies from abroad is very high. “A number of important sectors of Russian industry are” dramatically attached “to components imported from countries and the United States, the market analyst emphasizes. According to an expert Meduza, the textile, industrial, pharmaceutical, automotive and electronics industries are dependent on supplies from the West in 50 percent.

The Meduza website reminds that after the Russian army entered Ukraine, more than 300 Western companies withdrew from Russia, several dozen countries imposed an embargo on trade cooperation with Moscow and closed their skies, ports and border crossings to Russian carriers.

The European Union is already planning further sanctions. The European Commission is to present on Saturday a proposal for the sixth package of sanctions against Russia for its attack on Ukraine, the Brussels correspondent of Polish Radio said. Until the sixth package of sanctions is imposed on Russia, Brussels will hold consultations with EU member states. The proposals include some form of embargo on the import of Russian oil.

The ambassadors of the European Union countries discussed further sanctions against Russia on Wednesday. In connection with Russia cutting off gas to Poland, Ambassador to the EU Andrzej Sadoś called for immediate restrictions and an embargo on the import of all energy resources. – The sixth package of sanctions will appear in due course, we are working intensively on it – said the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.

One of the EU diplomats told a Polish Radio correspondent that work was underway to apply mechanisms that would be painful for Russia, but would not raise prices on world markets. – It is about smart sanctions – he added, and listed among the possible restrictions also a ban on the sale of various technologies that Russia needs.

As for the embargo on oil imports, after Wednesday’s discussion of ambassadors it is known that Germany, which has so far blocked the decision in this matter, is ready to agree to a gradual embargo and a transition period, but not to duties and taxes, as postulated by .in. Poland.
