Actor Juan Diego dies at 79

The actor Juan Diego (Bormujos, Seville, 1942) He died this Thursday at the age of 79 in Madrid after a long illness, as confirmed by the Film Academy and the Association of Performing Artists, Management Society (AISGE).

Juan Diego won three Goya Awards, with 9 nominationsfive awards for best actor at the Malaga Festival and has received the Silver Shell for Best Actor at the San Sebastian Festival for his work in “Vete de mí”, by Víctor García León.

Faithful defender of the importance of culture for society, the actor did not hold his tongue when talking about the political class. In an interview on laSexta Noche, Juan Diego defended that as long as the human being and freedom exist, culture has the duty to resist. Critical of the “political persecution” of culture and very active against cultural VAT, he said that “whoever is in charge, we will be against him and we will criticize him.”
