Actor Chris Rock has not filed charges against the Oscar winner Will Smith after apparently being assaulted by the latter at the film awards ceremony, Los Angeles police reported, according to CNN.
Smith slapped Rock during the aforementioned ceremony held last night in Los Angeles, after the comedian played a prank on Jada Pinkett Smith, the wife of the brand new Oscar winner as leading actor.
While presenting the Hollywood Academy Award for Best Documentary, Rock turned to Smith’s wife and tossed out the line, “Jada, I love you, ‘GI Jane 2,’ can’t wait to see it.”
With this phrase he made reference to the popular movie “Lieutenant O’Neil” (GI Jane), in which the protagonist, actress Demi Moore, appears shaved.
Pinkett Smith, who has publicly acknowledged that he suffers from alopecia (a disorder that causes baldness), appeared at the ceremony with a shaved head, according to the US network.
Upon hearing the joke, Will Smith walked onto the stage at the Dolby Theater and apparently punched Rock in the face, before yelling, “Keep my wife’s name out of your fucking mouth.”
“LAPD (Los Angeles Police) investigative entities are aware of an incident between two individuals during the Academy Awards ceremony,” the police department told CNN.
“The incident involved one individual slapping another. The individual involved refused to file a police report. If the involved party desires a police report at a later date, LAPD will be available to complete an investigative report,” police added. (I)
