Ariana DeBose just completed her flawless awards season by winning the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role as Anita in West Side Story. DeBose had already won the Bafta, Golden Globe and SAg awards, the union award.
“Your Anita paved the way for many Anitas like me, and I love you very much,” said the winner, thanking Rita Moreno, who in 1962 became the first Latina to win an Oscar thanks to her role as the resilient Anita.
The gala of the 94th edition of the Oscar, held tonight at the traditional Doby Theater in Hollywood, was introduced by the legendary tennis players and sisters Serena and Venus Williams, who are the central figures of the biographical film king richardwhich disputes the title as the best film of the year.
The event kicked off immediately with the first live performance of the song be alive, which competes for a statuette as best original song. The show, in charge of the renowned performer Beyoncé (who wrote the melody together with the artist Dixon) took place outside the theater, in another location.
The ceremony also began with 8 statuettes already delivered previously this afternoon. These are 8 categories that the Academy had already announced months ago that it was going to reward outside the official broadcast.
Those winners were Best Sound, Editing, Production Design, and Score for Dune; best short documentary for The queen of basketball; best animated short for The Windshield wiper; best short film for The long goodbye; and best makeup and hair, for The Eyes of Tammy Faye.
Immediately, the transmission returned to the theater where the well-known DJ Khaled jumped on stage to the rhythm of I’m every womanby Chaka Khan, to finally present the hostesses of the event: Amy Schumer, Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes.
“We’re already here at the Oscars,” Regina began. “It’s one where movie lovers get together to watch TV,” Wanda joked.
“The Oscar organization hired three of us women, because it’s cheaper than hiring a man,” Amy snapped, to which the audience burst out laughing.
