The 48.8% of the inhabitants of Álava, Bizkaia and Gipuzkoa between the ages of 15 and 29 say they “have read a book for leisure during their free time during 2021”, 5.6 points less than in 2016, according to data collected in the “Youth Basque” prepared by the Basque Youth Observatory.
This percentage of 48.8% is lower than the one that occurred in the previous surveys, carried out in 2012 and 2016, when 53.7% and 54.4% of the y the young respectively.
As explained by the Director of Youth of the Basque Government, Agurtzane Llano, the survey, made public on the occasion of the celebration of Book Day on April 23, concludes that “women read more than men (57.9% compared to 39.6%) and that the group of 25 to 29 year olds read more than the group of 15 to 24 year olds for leisure and without reading being related to their studies or their profession, in the month prior to the survey” .
