“We have no contact with our daughter’s godfather, but he is rich, so my husband wants to invite him for communion”

Not only the wedding guest list can be quite a challenge. For several weeks, my husband and I have been trying to compile the final list of guests for our daughter’s Holy Communion. Time is running out for us, because we should already send out invitations, and soon we also have to specify the number of guests who will be present at the ceremony in the restaurant. My biggest dilemma is with mums, however, with my daughter’s godfather. As for his invitation, I completely disagree with my husband.

Well, when Julka was little, he was one of our best friends. With time, however, the contact weakened, and finally it broke off almost completely, to which his wife put her hand. It never occurred to me to put him on the guest list. The husband, however, insists that he send an invitation, because he is a godfather and very wealthy. However, I do not understand what the point is, he will probably refuse anyway. We haven’t spoken to each other in over 4 years. Shortly after he got married, his wife completely wrapped him up and cut him off from his friends. We haven’t sent each other birthday or Christmas wishes for a long time. At that time, he never saw his goddaughter.

So it seemed natural to me to omit it when creating the Communion guest list. My husband completely disagrees with me. In his opinion, both the godmother and the godfather should be invited. He also believes that he has a duty to “spend a penny” on this occasion, since he is so rich. And here we cannot reach an agreement all the time, because I do not agree with it. I am of the opinion that this is a family celebration that should be spent in the company of really close people.
