The Basque Government offers aid to cinemas, theaters and promoters for losses during the pandemic

The Department of Culture and Language Policy of the Basque Government will allocate 2,000,000 euros to alleviate the economic losses that the restrictions due to the covid-19 pandemic have caused in cinemas and the sector of live musical performances.

Freelancers and movie theater companies will receive 500,000 euros and the remaining amount, 1.5 million, will be for professionals in live music venues and for promoters of this type of performance, as reported by the industry counselor and spokesman for the Executive, Bingen Zupiria, after the Governing Council.

Requirements

In order to qualify for the aid, it is necessary that the turnover of 2021 has been 20% less than in 2019. In the case of live music venues, the requirements are to have a minimum capacity of 120 people, to have programmed in 2019 a minimum of 20 events with paid entry in towns with more than 100,000 inhabitants or a minimum of 12 in the rest of the towns.

As for live music promoters, it is necessary to have organized at least 10 live music events with paid admission during 2019.

The amount for each subsidized project will never exceed 170,000 euros in the case of managers of live music venues and 30,000 euros in the case of promoters.

In the case of movie theaters, they must have been open to the public at least six months before the call is published, have a box office and income statement system, be registered in the Administrative Registry of Film Companies and have included in its 2021 programming at least 40% of community or Ibero-American films.

In this case, the maximum amount of aid will depend on the number of screens managed.

The deadline for submitting applications will begin on May 5 and end on June 4.
