The work shows two soldiers painting the symbol of the Campaign For Nuclear Disarmament, an organization founded in 1957 that fights to end the use of nuclear weapons and other mass destruction. This sign, called the pacifier, has become a well-known symbol of peace. It was created by the British designer Gerald Holtom, who used the semaphore alphabet used in the past by seafarers to develop it – on the circle he put the letters N and D of this alphabet (Nuclear Disarmament).

The starting price for “CND Soldiers” is £ 20,000 (approx. PLN 113,000). It is known that the amount in the silent auction quickly skyrocketed (according to the BBC, it’s already a minimum of £ 40,000). Everything is to be handed over to the Children’s Hospital in Kiev, which continues to operate despite the attacks by Russian troops in the Ukrainian capital. The work “CND Soldiers” was first created as a mural in London after the British invasion of Iraq in 2003. Two years later, 700 color prints, 70 x 50 cm, on paper, were made using the screen printing technique. In 2007, one of them was displayed at the Tate Gallery. 350 screens are signed by Banksy, 350 are not. This auctioned work is not signed.
