It is quite a stir that Sting was invited to the Wiktor gala, and in addition he accepted the invitation and intends to perform during the event broadcast by TVP. Polish journalists such as Mariusz Szczygie, Monik Olejnik and Maciej Orłoś appeal to the musician not to perform due to the politicized and propaganda activities of the public broadcaster. In turn, Maciej Stuhr chose a different tactic, who, despite being nominated for Wiktor, did not receive the invitation to the gala.
Maciej Stuhr: Dear Stingu, unfortunately we will not meet at Wiktor
“It would be nice to listen to Sting live. Apparently he is to appear at the Wiktor gala. Apparently I am nominated in the Actor of the Year category. I say ‘supposedly’ because I only know about the matter from the Internet, no one informed me about it, no one invited me to the gala. “- wrote Maciej Stuhr in the latest post on Facebook.
As it turns out, Sting’s album “Nothing like the sun” was the first foreign cassette with popular music that his father, actor Jerzy Stuhr, brought to Maciej Stuhr as a gift from abroad. The star of films and series such as “Chłopaki nie crying”, “Planet of singles”, “Testosteron”, “Belfer” or “Szadź” does not hide that he has a great fondness for the singer, especially since he heard from a friend in his youth that very similar to him. He also adds that the quote from Sting’s song “Be yourself no matter what they say” is his life motto.
The actor, however, does not regret not listening to Sting live on Wiktor:
Even if I did get an invitation, and even if my beloved Sting sang straight into my ear for an hour, I could not in good conscience appear at a station party that sows hatred, divides society, lies to millions of people every day, creates and stigmatizes alleged public enemies, it destroys pluralism and freedom of speech!
At the end he turned to his favorite musician: “So Dear Stingu! I am your big fan! I am nominated for one of the awards in the gala you are going to celebrate. Unfortunately, for many reasons we will not see you this evening. It’s a pity. Manners maketh man”.
Other Polish representatives of the world of culture and entertainment also addressed Sting in their posts. “Dear Mr. Sting, you probably do not know that by appearing at the Wiktory TVP Gala, you authorize and authenticate television, which has nothing to do with democratic free media. The media is to be the fourth power that looks at the hands of the rulers, but Polish Television is a mouthpiece propaganda of the government “- wrote Mariusz Szczygieł.

In turn, Monika Olejnik proposes that she will give Sting her Super Wiktor, if he does not perform for TVP: “I thought that I had Super Witkor here and I would give Mr. Sting back when he came to another event. Not for this Wiktor, I will give him my Super Wiktor. to Mr. Sting “- she wrote on Instagram.
Wiktory are “Television Academy awards, which have been awarded since 1985, honoring outstanding personalities of the small screen, people who, thanks to their personality, knowledge and skills, are remembered by viewers.” The originator of the Wiktor family is Józef Węgrzyn, a TV producer and journalist. The awards were presented until 2014 – TVP resigned from the event the following year due to “major turmoil in public television”. From then on, no one looked after Wiktor, until suddenly, after a seven-year break, TVP decided to organize the ceremony again.
At one time, he gave an address in Poland on the Internet to which aid to Ukraine can be sent from abroad. He also sang a touching song that he wrote during the Cold War. “I never thought it would matter that much again,” she says of the song “Russians”.
