Malaga presents the ‘Chiquito de la Calzada traffic light’: shout “Quiétorrr!” and “Al ataquerr!” and imitates the movements of the comedian

Malaga now has a unique pedestrian traffic light in the world, with animated figures with LED lights that reproduce the walk of Chiquito de la Calzada, whose voice shouts “Quiétorrr!” when you can’t cross and “Al ataquerrr!” when the green phase begins for pedestrians. Everything has been possible thanks to the challenge accepted by a group of Vocational Training students and their teachers at the Ave María School in the capital of Malaga, who have developed this project for a month and a half in absolute secrecy after receiving the proposal from the City Council of the town.

When the pedestrian presses the button to cross the street, the show begins, with the silhouette of a Chiquito illuminated in red that flexes his leg in his characteristic hesitant posture, and at that moment begins the string of expressions that made the humorist from Malaga famous. “Quiétorrr! I’m going to give you a fine that not even Perry Mason is going to remove. Relax. You’re a torpedo. Do you realize? You move more than prices. I’m going to shit on your teeth. No I can, I can’t, I can’t. Coward! Fistro! Sinner!” are some of the phrases that can be heard in the red phase.

Next, the Chiquito “doll” designed by the students and teachers slides, thanks to the grace of electronics, from the upper window to the lower one of the traffic light, turning green to indicate to pedestrians that they can now cross and go back to his personal dictionary. “To the attacker! See you later, Lucas. Seven horses that come from Bonanza. I’m not saying wheat for not calling you Rodrigo. A black lake, a white lake. nooo! That cars pass at 160 kilometers per hour“, Says the humorist, who also pronounces some of his mythical jipidos.

We have had to watch a few videos of Chiquito to reproduce his movements.”

“The most important challenge has been that the dolls of the original traffic light were fixed and we had to change them with LED arrays so that they were programmable and equip them with the movement of Chiquito“, explained this Tuesday Miguel Descalzo, professor of Electronics in this center, after the presentation of the traffic light by the mayor of the city, Francisco de la Torre. They have used the loudspeaker that already had the traffic light on which they have worked and its source power supply, and they have added “an MP3 player that has been incorporated into the microprocessor so that the button sends the order to start the sound,” adds Barefoot.

“We have had to watch a few videos of Chiquito to reproduce his movements,” admits the teacher, who has worked with a group of students between 16 and 18 years old. Another of the teachers who have participated, Francisco Pareja, specifies that they have used “around thirty Chiquito jokes of which the audios with the expressions have been cut, and it has been like a cut and paste but with audios, very fun for the students and also for the teachers”.

“Chiquito de la Calzada, Don Gregorio (Sánchez Fernández), He was a very endearing person and much loved in Malagaand he was almost a neighbor of this school”, emphasizes Pareja. For his part, the Councilor for Mobility of Malaga, José del Río, has pointed out that the traffic light offers the possibility of raising and lowering the volume and limiting the operating hours of the sound of Chiquito so that it does not disturb the neighbors.

With a red phase of 40 seconds and a green phase of 60, which can be modified, the traffic light is not approved to be installed in a place to regulate traffic, so it ishis function is only ornamental for those who want to see the humorist’s movement and hear his sentences, according to the mayor. The City Council has not yet decided the exact location of the traffic light, although it is considering the possibility of requesting a second copy from the students and installing one in the area of the historic center that Chiquito frequented and the other in the environment in which he lived, in the neighborhood Malaga from Huelin.
