The work of the Russian conceptual artist is entitled “Putin Filled with Ukrainian Blood”. The new work of Molodkin, who used blood and oil many times in the past, was created in collaboration with his Ukrainian friends and colleagues. Before returning to their homeland, to which they returned to fight the Russian troops, they symbolically donated their blood. Meanwhile, Molodkin opened his doors in a French foundry for their wives and children fleeing the war.

“It’s time to send a simple message through art about the war and who Putin really is”

– I had to come back to defend my homeland. I donated my blood before I left to fight to show that it would be handled by one man – one of the people involved in the project “The Moscow Times”. Mołodkin himself says that he created the work to show the solidarity of Russians and Ukrainians:

It’s every regime’s dream to silence the discussion. It’s time to send a simple message through art about the war and who Putin really is.

The eight-meter-long installation was for a short time to be seen in one of London’s churches – it was hung there in such a way as to evoke an icon. While the blood was dripping to create a portrait of the Russian president, a heartbeat was heard in the background.
