House ferns have fallen or brown leaves? They can be saved. This method is very simple

Although it has been accepted that home ferns are not easy to care for, nothing could be more wrong. Like any plant, it just needs the right conditions for growth. The most important thing in the case of ferns is the frequency of watering, because it can cause the most problems, especially for people who are just starting their adventure with these flowers. However, even in the case of overflow or drying of the fern, we can still save it. We suggest how to do it.

Home ferns: poured or dried? This can be easily distinguished

If we want to save the ferns, we must first check whether they have been dry or shed. For this you need to look at the leaves of the ferns. If they did not have enough water, they will:

  • fallen,
  • yellow,
  • leaf edges may begin to die off.

The shed plant will have:

  • brown spots on leaves,
  • soil in a pot covered with mold.

Desiccated house ferns. How to save them?

Not only insufficiently watered substrate, but also placing the pot next to the radiator, low air humidity or too high temperature in the house can cause the fern to dry out. It must be taken into account that the warmer it is in the room, the more often the ferns should be watered.

In order to restore the plant, start by cutting off its dry leaves. Never pour a large amount of water on dry soil. This process should be carried out gradually, with a small amount of water. It cannot be hard water, as it often causes the tips of the leaves to dry out. If we do not have a water filter jug, it is enough to leave the water for a few hours at room temperature before watering. It is also a good idea to sprinkle the fern leaves with a sprinkler every few days. We categorically avoid fertilizers that can harm the plant even more.

A way to shed home ferns

Fern owners should remember that watering this plant is a very individual matter. The rule, e.g. once a week, cannot be applied in their case. The frequency of watering ferns must depend on the season of the year and the room in which it is located. However, if we cause the substrate to overflow, we still have a chance to save the plant.

As in the case of drying, we should start by cutting out the discolored leaves. If, on the other hand, there is mold on the ground, gently loosen the ground with a stick. You absolutely should not replant such a flower or change its soil. We do not wait until the substrate is completely dry with watering. When the soil is slightly dry (which may take up to 1.5 weeks), water the fern with standing water with the addition of fungicide. We avoid all fertilizers. We repeat this activity several times. The fern can also be moved to a sunnier place, but without exposing it to direct sunlight.
