Chanel and ‘SlowMo’ controversy
Despite the fact that everything seemed to indicate that the Galician group of Tanxungueiras or the Catalan Rigoberta Bandini would be chosen to represent Spain in Turin, the jury’s decision resulted in the victory of the singer Chanelsomething that did not like a large part of the Spanish public. TVE For its part, it was forced to issue a statement in which showed his support for the selected candidate.
The days following the Benidorm Fest, the singer chose to disappear from social networks due to harsh criticism -many of them with a racist and sexist connotation- that he was receiving.
Although it seemed that the waters were calm, at the end of last February, the Socialist Party once again put the focus on action of the singer of Cuban origin, this time referring to the letter. In this way, he moved the debate to the Mixed Commission of Parliamentary Control of the RTVE Corporation.
In it, the socialist deputy lydia guinart stated that the sugardadism that refers to the lyrics of the chosen song “it is a form of prostitution”as can be seen in the February 24 session published by the Youtube channel of the Congress of Deputies.
It is worth mentioning that the term ‘sugar daddy’to which Guinart refers, describes a elderly man who offers money or gifts in exchange for a romantic or sexual relationship.
The song goes like this:
I drive all the daddies crazy
I always go first, never secondary
I hardly do doom, doom with my boom, boom
And I have him giving zoom, zoom on my yummy
Jose Manuel Perez Turnerpresident of the RTVE Corporation, claimed to have read the lyrics “40,000 times” and stressed the difference between ‘daddy’ and ‘sugar daddy’.
For this reason, he did not hesitate to defend the selected song at the Benidorm Fest: “The interpretation that you make of the song is one, then there is another. I don’t want to get into that. I really fully defend that TVE has to give a message of defense of women, of equality, of respect for her dignity. Not just with the winner, maybe with all of them. We are thinking very carefully. My ‘colleagues’ from the Corporation are reading everything that appears on the subject,” concluded Tornero.
