One of the stars of the Moscow Bolshoi Ballet, the Russian ballerina Olga Smirnovaannounced this Wednesday his incorporation to the Dutch National Ballet after having publicly denounced the Russian invasion of Ukraine, because he could not “remain indifferent to this global catastrophe”.

In a statement, the Dutch company noted that the public denunciation of the Russian artist made it “unsustainable” to keep her work in her country and she welcomed her to the Netherlands and the Dutch National Ballet (Het Nationale Ballet), which is “delighted” with the arrival of “such an inspiring dancer ”.

In the statement, Smirnova assured that she had been considering a change of scenery in her career as a dancer for some time and that “the current circumstances have accelerated this process.”

He declared himself a fan of the resident choreographer of the Dutch National Ballet, Hans van Manen, and ballet mistress Larissa Lezhnina.

“Olga Smirnova is an exceptional dancer whom I greatly admire. I have followed her career with great interest for many years. It is a privilege to have her dance with our company in the Netherlands, although the circumstances that have prompted this move of her are incredibly sad ”said the director of Dutch National Ballet, Ted Brandsen.

Smirnova will debut playing the title role of the Russian ballet Raymonda at its premiere on April 3. (I)
