The sanctions imposed on Russia have affected not only the oligarchs but also ordinary citizens. This can be noticed, for example, in grocery stores that restrict access to certain products. The recording that went around the Internet is proof of this.

Restrictions have been introduced in many Russian stores

The recording posted on Twitter was recorded by a witness to the incident. It shows the reality that Russian citizens must face. Sugar has become a scarce commodity in some regions. From that moment on, customers started fighting for it. The video shows how the store employees are trying to calm the raging crowd, who wants to buy sugar at all costs. Unfortunately, to no avail. In many stores, restrictions have been imposed on a certain number of packages of this scarce product.

Russian Maksim Mironov, who posted the video on Twitter, wrote:

Like in childhood. I remember when in 1985 I was standing in a line for sugar, they gave me one kilogram in my hands, my grandmother first lent me to a friend so that he would get 2 kilos. When it was her turn and she wanted me to take a kilogram too, the queue immediately attacked her, they shouted “this child has already got it”.

– he recalls.

Many people pointed out in the comments that they remembered those times and then people also “fought” for products such as sugar, butter or oil.

Sugar export restrictions

Russia has limited its exports of sugar and some grains. As the rulers explain, this is a temporary measure to help stabilize prices. The ban on the export of white and cane sugar will apply until August 31. At the same time, until June 30, the export of cereals to the EEU countries was banned. It is about wheat, rye, barley and corn.

A decision was made to protect the domestic food market against external restrictions.

– explains the Russian government.
