Juanjo: Ilyari presents his album ‘Todas mis sangres’, a song to the roots and to life

Although it has been available on digital distribution platforms since February, last Sunday the artist Ilyari (@ilyari_cholandesa) officially presented in a Show at Teatro Nacional Sucre his album all my bloodsalong with Los 4 Suyos, who serve as his support band, as well as different guests, such as Alvaro Bermeo, Julio Andrade, Juana Guarderas, among others.

Composed of fourteen songs, with an approximate duration of fifty-eight minutes, this studio production has eclecticism as its main basis, the fusion of genres that range from Andean folklore to nuances of rap and, of course, the search for identity of its composer, who is Peruvian-Dutch, but who has been living for some years in Quito, the Ecuadorian capital.

This album has various elements to highlight; however, some of the most important in terms of his sound, without a doubt, are his guitars and percussion, which define a kind of authenticity that distinguishes Ilyari from other projects that deal with ethnic themes. Despite the fact that at first it may seem like a work that is going to focus on the roots in a somewhat classic way, songs like its homonym or Is it love? (which has the air of a radio soap opera or an experimental narrative) demonstrate that modern side with which the artist wants to begin to position herself in independent national music.

Although the year has barely passed the first quarter, I dare to say without fear of error that this is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious projects of 2022. All its sounds and stories make it an excellent proposal that is worth spending about an hour listening to.

Art is about walking paths, telling stories and getting involved in the processes. The one who dares to do it is not guaranteed success, but a unique and honest result. (OR)
