Oscar-winning actor William Hurt, known for his character in ‘The Avengers’, dies

The actor William Hurtwinner of an Oscar, has died at 71 years, as announced by his family. The death occurred “calmly and due to natural causes“just” a week before his 72nd birthday.

The American was Oscar winner for best actor in 1985 for ‘Kiss of the Spider Woman’. In addition, he starred in other films such as ‘Fire in the body’ (1981) or ‘Children of a lesser god’ (1986), for which he was nominated for an Oscar. In total he received four Oscar nominations, which are completed with those of ‘On the edge of the news’ (1987) and ‘A history of violence’ (2005), in this case as a supporting actor.

Other notable film appearances were in ‘The Accidental Tourist’ (1988), ‘Romance in New York’ (1996), ‘AI Artificial Intelligence’ (2001), ‘The Forest’ (2004) or ‘The Good Shepherd’ ( 2006). He also played Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross in the Marvel universe, in the last two installments of ‘The Avengers’in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ (2016) and in ‘Black Widow’ (2021).

Hurt also acted in such stage productions as “Henry V,” “Fifth of July,” “Richard II,” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” and received a 1985 Tony Award nomination for “Hurlyburly.”
