Although Zuzanna, Zofia, Julia and Maja have been the most popular among girls for many years, many parents try to give their children the most original name. Unfortunately, this can have many unpleasant consequences later in life.

Foreign names in their Polish version are a common problem

You should not judge the other person through the prism of their name, unfortunately it is often stronger than us, at least during the first meeting. Although we can come across names for girls less and less often, such as Dżesik, Wanesa, Dayan or Dżenifer, parents still use foreign inspirations. In this case, the best solution is to leave the original spelling, otherwise we may expose the child to unpleasant stereotypes. They are often associated with the low social status of parents, which in an interview with the business psychologist Jacek Santorski:

In Poland, such differences between social groups are even more visible, because communism interrupted the continuity of the cultural tissue. If these groups knew that rare names do not make a special impression on wealthier people (…). And then this child with a “sophisticated” name has to deal with various reactions from the generally conservative Polish society

These female names abroad have a completely different meaning

Of course, such situations may happen sporadically, but for some countries we have to take into account the fact that the name is often not only pronounced differently. Their in a foreign language can be downright surprising:

• Marika – in Spain the word “marica” ​​is a vulgar term for homosexuals,
• Anna – diminutive of this name in Sweden, meaning “Anka” means duck,
• Kamila – phonetically this name in Bulgaria is similar to the pronunciation of the word “camel”
• Marta – this is another name that in Spanish will bring to mind another association, namely marten,
• Beata – phonetics plays a similar role in this name, but in Romania. The name sounds almost identical to a drunk person.

In 2006, she created a list of non-recommended baby names. Among them were: Akaina, Alma, Carmen, Clea, Cynthia, Dajana, Jaila, Krystina, Kuba as a female name, Lilith, Lorina, Malta, Maya, Montezuma, Morena, Natasha, Nicol, Nicole, Nika, Pakita, Strawberry , Sofia, Tea, Teonika, Tonia, Veronika, Victoria, Violeta and Violetta.

Additionally, the following names were indicated as the worst names for children of RSJ:

• derived from common words,
• derived from geographical names,
• about archaic spelling.
