– I think Putin is right. That part of Ukraine was Russia and it is Russia. (…) If Ukraine does not end up like the Balkans, Putin will have to be thanked. He is a great, enlightened man – said Al Bano nearly eight years ago, shortly after the annexation of Crimea by the Russians. The Italian star and ardent supporter of Vladimir Putin’s policy reacted with surprise when in 2019 he was recognized by the Ukrainian government as a “threat to national security”. In recent days, however, Bano turned away from his idol, which he said on the radio RAI 1.
Al Bano on Vladimir Putin: His life is in danger
“It must be kept while there is time,” Al Bano said. – He also works against himself, does not defend anyone, destroys his image in the eyes of the world. What is happening in Ukraine is unacceptable, when hospitals are under fire, children are killed. No, it’s unacceptable – said the singer. Bano mentioned that he had several high-profile acquaintances in Russia – one of them told him that the situation was “it’s a real slaughterhouse”. The singer added that, in his opinion, Vladimir Putin’s life is in danger. – He has to be careful about the threat posed by those who adored him and served him a few months ago. At least i think so.
Many famous people from the world of culture, sports and media, also in Russia, expressed their opposition to the actions of Vladimir Putin. Concerts in Moscow or Saint Petersburg were canceled by many stars, incl. Green Day, Iggy Pop, Franz Ferdinand, OneRepublic or Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. Al Bano himself also announced that he was not planning to return to Russia any time soon; his performances scheduled for the fall will not take place. – You can’t sing when someone is killed. I think it takes at least two or three years for stabilization – summed up the vocalist.
