Natalia Kukulska in the cult concert format. “Decymy” on MTV Unplugged is even more touching

MTV Unplugged concerts are undoubtedly a significant part of the history of modern music. The format started by the American TV station in the late 1980s, for decades gathered top artists who presented their works “without electricity”. To the list of performers such as Mariah Carey, Nirvana, Alicia Keys, Eric Clapton or – from the domestic music market – Kayah, Hey, Brodka or Zalewski have just been joined by Natalia Kukulska.

Natalia created the musical concept of the concert together with Archie Shevski – a producer and musician with whom she has been working for years. Archie is also the arranger; in addition, he played the piano and windliter. We will hear Artur “BooBoo” Twarowski on the acoustic guitar, and Marcin “Mały” Górny on Moog. The percussion section includes: drums (Michał Dąbrówka), marimba (Jaś Dąbrówka) and handpans (Michał Pękosz), in the wind instrument section: French horn (Mikołaj Grott), bass clarinet (Tomasz Żymła) and flute (Tomasz Duda). An important element of the musical setting is the vocal section, including excellent ones: Kasia Rościńska, Ola Nowak and Archie Shevsky.

The icing on the cake of this unusual composition were the guests invited by the artist. On the album we will hear unique duets with Natalia Szroeder and Igor Herbut. The principle of MTV Unplugged concerts is also to take a cover to the workshop. Kukulska’s proposal seems surprising – it’s the famous “There is no water in the desert” from the Bajmu repertoire. His spontaneous performance diversifies a wide list of selected songs, which include both the greatest hits and less known, and even new songs from the EP “Jednogłośna” released last year.

The first single promoting the release is the song “Decymy”. The song was on the singer’s fifth solo album entitled “Natalia Kukulska” released in 2003. Its popularity continues and its message is very timely. “It’s nothing that eyes are full of tears, and a new day will come anyway” – these words bring hope, which for many have become a motto in life. The composition of Natalia Kukulska and Michał Dąbrówka with words by Ryszard Kunce has also been performed many times, which can be found on the Internet. The choice of this song in uncertain and difficult times is not accidental. Natalia’s intention is for the song to soothe, lift the spirits and be – especially now – a “comforter song”.
