“The life of a president and general is worth as much as the life of a child, doctor, truck driver or private soldier. And it will end the same, whether under the open sky or behind a thick palace wall. from the achievements of our folk culture “- say the musicians.
Premiere – Polskie Znaki feat. Vito Bambino – Let the monarchs
The death of the king from the throne will put a dark coffin
and will lead them to the ground with majesty
from the imperial hand the scepter persists
covered with sand
– this is an excerpt from the song “Let the Monarchs”.
It all started with Radek Łukasiewicz, Jarek Wałny and Janusz Zdunek, who decided to deal with the subject of passing, death and mourning. Despite the fact that these are inevitable elements, which are part of everyday life, they are a cultural taboo in our country. The musicians created unusual compositions that will help the listener look at the final issues from a different perspective and thus help him to familiarize himself with difficult experiences.
Materials for “Last Things” are the result of many hours of talks and meetings with enthusiasts of the topic from all over the country; folk artists from the Zamość Region, Lublin Region and Subcarpathia; village cantors, singers and singers. Trips around Polish villages, towns and cities. It soon turned out that the journey would not end.
On the basis of the texts and foundations of the melody collected by Jarek Wałny (recorded on a dictaphone in the village housewives’ circle or during direct meetings with singers), compositions were created for the contemporary audience.
From the beginning, we understood the difficulty of the task so that the modern “song” production would not deprive the original songs of their true spirit and meaning. We are also aware of our responsibility: some of these songs have never been professionally recorded, nor have any arrangements – all were traditionally performed “a capella” by funeral parlors, often with improvised melodies. We decided to record them with singers who practice different styles on a daily basis, whose timbre and emotionality will allow us to find ourselves in this peculiar matter. They are Michał Szpak, Matylda Damięcka, Vito Bambino and other popular characters.
We dedicate the album to Bart Sosnowski, who sang with us in the song “C Whatever in the World”.
The premiere of the album “Rzeczy last” was scheduled for March 25 and will be released by Agora Muzyka.
