Coogler confirmed the incident to the magazine Variety. “This situation should never have happened,” he said. “However, Bank of America worked with me and fixed everything to my satisfaction and we have overcome it”.
The 35-year-old filmmaker was arrested and handcuffed after he went to the bank to make a transaction on January 7, according to a recently released police report. Coogler was wearing a hat, dark glasses, and a face mask as he approached the window and He handed the teller a withdrawal slip with a written note that read: “I would like to withdraw $12,000 from my checking account. Please do the counting elsewhere. I would like it to be discreet.”

The employee, however, misinterpreted the situation as an attempted robbery by seeing a transaction of more than $10,000 and triggered an alert notification on Coogler’s bank account. She then informed her boss that she suspected an attempted robbery and the police were called.
Four officers from the Atlanta Police Department arrived and stopped two of Coogler’s companions, who were waiting outside in a car. They told the police who Coogler was, and described him, but they were taken to the patrol car anyway, and the director was later handcuffed.
After verifying Coogler’s identity and bank account, they released him and his friends.
A Bank of America spokesperson expressed regret over the incident, saying that They have already apologized to Coogler, who is currently filming the sequel. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, in the same city of Atlanta. The premiere is projected for November.
