Writer Cormac McCarthy returns to captivate with his novels ‘The Passenger’ and ‘Stella Maris’

Two new novels by the writer Cormac McCarthy They will be published in November of this year, as announced on Wednesday by the executive vice president and publisher of Alfred A. Knopf, Reagan Arthur, which was reported by the Random House Literature label.

Agent Amanda Urban of ICM Partners has sold the rights to the works and books that will be published, in addition to the United States, in the United Kingdom (Picador), Spain (Random House Literature), Holland (Arbeiderspers), Germany (Rowohlt) , Italy (Einaudi), France (Editions de l’Olivier), Sweden (Bonniers), Norway and Denmark (Gyldendal), Finland (WSOY) and Brazil (Companhia).

Cormac McCarthy’s works have been published in 48 countries around the world.

In Spain and Latin America, Literatura Random House will publish the two titles in a single volume on November 10.

The novels, set eight years apart, tell the great story of siblings Bobby and Alicia Western.

The Knopf publishing house will publish The passengerthe first of the two novels, on October 25, and the second, Stella Marison November 22, along with a slipcase of both volumes.

“Knopf is delighted to publish two new novels by one of our most celebrated writers,” said Arthur, who recalled that “for almost six decades, Cormac McCarthy’s books have changed the literary landscape and have influenced generations of authors and artists”.

According to Arthur, these “extraordinary novels” are nothing like what Cormac McCarthy had written before, and “while both should be read and experienced separately, they represent two sides of the same narrative coin.”

In the words of Knopf Vice President and Publisher Jenny Jackson, both books feature “an exciting and highly intellectually stimulating plot.”

He adds: “We have a plane crash, a treasure trove of gold coins buried deep underground and hidden in copper pipes, a rare Amati violin that goes missing, an abandoned oil rig in the middle of the ocean, and an Italian race car seized by Tax authorities”.

In the text of both novels, the author “questions reality, the existence of God, investigates the history of mathematics, physics and philosophy, and conjures up a love story as pure as it is cursed”.

The passenger is the story of a rescue diverhaunted by loss, fearful of the aquatic depths, haunted by a conspiracy beyond his comprehension, and longing for a death he cannot reconcile with God.

On Stella Maristhe author draws an intimate portrait of pain and nostalgia based on the story of a young woman admitted to a psychiatric center who tries to understand her own existence.

American writer Cormac McCarthy’s novels have received numerous literary awards, including the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award, and the National Book Critics Circle Award.

Among his works adapted to the cinema are All the Beautiful Horses, The Road and No Country for Old Men, the latter recognized with four Oscars, including best film. (I)
