The music of Ludwig van Beethoven will resonate again this Thursday in the main hall of the Art Center Theater thanks to the repertoire that the Municipal Philharmonic Orchestra of Guayaquil, directed by the teacher David Harutyunyan. In a seasonal concert, which on this occasion will feature the intervention of three international musicians: Emilio Colon, from Puerto Rico; Corey Cerovsek, from Canada; and Steven Vanhauwaertfrom Belgium.
Vanhauwaert says that it is the first time that he will play with the Guayaquil orchestra. He landed two nights ago and confesses feeling excited about the first rehearsal he had with the rest of the musicians. “The first time is always an adventure because it’s trying to get to know each other, then you start to resolve the issues of how each one thinks, and at that moment all the ideas come together… It’s funny how all that is achieved”expresses the musician who will be at the piano.
“I am a lover of playing chamber music with few people, and when it comes to working with an orchestra, which thinks like a chamber music group, it is always a lot of fun; Although there is distance, everyone is aware of what is happening so that it is a symbiotic relationship”, Add.
They are musicians who have toured various parts of the world, also sharing with other groups. Are there differences between playing with a European orchestra and doing it with a Latin one?
“For me the experience is the love of music and the passion that exists in certain parts of the world, they are what make the difference. There are times when one goes to places where perfection is not yet there, but passion surpasses everything, and for me that is the funniest thing that distinguishes an orchestra, with what passion or with what love they do it (…), but I never distinguish between one country and another”, responds Colón, the musician who has been visiting Ecuador since 1994 and assures that “in Guayaquil there is plenty of passion”.
Rehearsals were scheduled for two afternoons before the concert. Colón explains that the harmony between them allows for an instant connection. “We play so much together that we look at each other and we already know what we want, we don’t even have to talk. It’s the kind of environment where that’s the pleasure, where three people can get together, plus an orchestra, and immediately have clear ideas.” expresses the cellist and also composer.
Maestro Harutyunyan explains that these cultural and musical exchanges are a good opportunity both for the Ecuadorian public and for the musicians who nurture each other.
The guest musicians will perform the triple concerto for piano, violin and cello Op 56 of Beethoven. While the concert will start with an overture of Felix Mendelsson.
