Zofia Go³ubiew is dead. The art historian was associated with the National Museum in Krakow for 41 years

informed about the death of Zofia Gołubiew. The art historian and former museum director was 80 years old. “It is with deep regret that we received the news of the death of the late Zofia Gołubiew, who was associated with the National Museum in Krakow for 41 years,” wrote the institution’s social media.

Zofia Gołubiew graduated in art history at the Jagiellonian University, and two years later she worked professionally with the National Museum in where she was editor of the publishing house, head of the department of modern Polish painting and sculpture, and deputy director for research and education.

“From 1996 she was the deputy director for scientific affairs, and from 2000 – for 15 years – she was the director of this institution. She was the author or co-author of famous exhibitions: Siemiradzki, Grottger, Kantor, Matejko, Wróblewski, Lebenstein. Among others: the Józef Mehoffer House, the Bishop Erazm Ciołek Palace, the Jan Matejko House, the Cloth Hall, the Czapski Palace, the Granary and built the Józef Czapski Pavilion “- she lists.

Zofia Gołubiew has been honored with many decorations and distinctions, including the “Gloria Artis” Gold Medal for Merit to Culture (2005), the Lesser Poland Cross (2015), “Honoris Gratia” (2015), and the Commander’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta (2011).
