Everyone is talking about Residente’s new song, and it’s not surprising: this is his harshest attack against J Balvin

Resident is back. This is the message that, since the night of this Thursday, March 4, and until now, has not stopped being repeated on social networks, revolutionized after listening to the new song published by the well-known composer of ‘Calle 13’ together with the Argentine producer and DJ Bizarrap. A song in which he exposes lyrics loaded with criticism and attacks against fellow musician J Balvin as a result of the boycott announcement that launched this towards the 2021 Latin Grammys.

“This cowardly young lamb is like a vegan breakfast, without eggs,” starts the theme of Residente, in which he even accuses Balvin of “liar”, “racist”, “false” and corrupted by the music industry: “The people fighting, they are being killed, and the guy uploads photos of Gandhi praying”, “he is an imbecile with hair dye who put black women with dog chains around their necks” or “no you buy respect for being talented, one thing is to be an artist, another thing is to be famous” are some of the phrases that Residente dedicates to the Colombian composer.

“History is going to give you a slap in the name of everyone who picked cotton under abuse, and another slap in the name of everyone who has had to battle twice within reggaeton,” continues the leader of ‘Calle 13’ takes advantage of this theme at the same time to vindicate himself as an artist who has not sold himself to the commodification of music, assuring again and again in the chorus: “I do this for fun“. And he adds: “Mine is not ‘business, we are’ different’. For music I put my heart to the front”.

The harsh lyrics that Residente has written for this song have not gone unnoticed on social networks; especially on Twitter, where many youtubers or influencers have echoed it with surprise. This is the case of the well-known Ibai Llanos, who after listening to the song stated: “I hope Residente likes me because if he does to me what he just did to J Balvin, I’m going to a cave for seven months.” He has not been the only one to express a position similar to this.

Similarly, platforms like Twitter or Instagram have been filled with memes joking about the large number of darts that Residente has thrown at J Balvin while the song -and the video that accompanies it- has not stopped receiving visits since its publication: it already counts with 19 million views since its release, and is on its way to becoming one of the most viewed songs on Bizarrap. A song that, if you haven’t heard yet, we leave you here.
