Madrid (AFP).- The Spanish rocker Enrique Bunbury, who was leader of the band Heroes del Silencioannounced Monday that he will withdraw from the stage due to chronic throat and respiratory afflictions that cause “immense pain and suffering” during tours.

“I have made the very thoughtful and conscious decision to abandon my performing activity, in concerts and tours,” said Bunbury, 54, in a statement posted on his social networks.

The singer, who lives in Los Angeles (USA), clarified that he will comply with the concerts scheduled in the United States and Spain until Septemberbut these “will be the last ones I do”.

“I have heard different names and diagnoses. The reality is that my throat closes up and is irritated, and my airways make even the slightest exercise and execution of my work difficult,” explained Bunbury.

“So what was normally pleasure and delight has become a source of immense pain and suffering. None of this ever happens to me, if I’m not on tour”, continued the artist, with a 25-year solo career.

Bunbury indicated that he has felt the symptoms since 2015. The stoppage of activity due to the covid-19 pandemic made him think that the evil had been “diluted”, but on the recent Mexican tour he realized that this was not the case.

Anyway, affirmed that he will continue composing and recording discs, in addition to dedicating himself to other creative tasks, such as “painting and writing poetry books.”

In the text, Bunbury gave his “sincere thanks” for having been able to offer more than 1,500 concerts as a singer for 35 years in Europe, Latin America, the United States and Japan.

Bunbury led Héroes del Silencio for a decade, a group that released four albums and became very popular in Europe and Latin America with songs like Between two lands or The right spark.
