The Prado Museum in Madrid exhibits part of his works in the Bosque de Chapultepec in Mexico City

In total, the exhibition is made up of more than 50 photographic reproductions of paintings from the cultural space, one of the largest art galleries in the world.

The Prado Museum in Madrid, one of the largest art galleries in the world, arrived in Mexico on Monday with the photographic exhibition of a selection of the most iconic works from its collection at the bars of the emblematic Bosque de Chapultepec in Mexico City.

“It is a selection of iconic works that we have tried to be so identifiable in many cases that people who are not particularly interested in art history can say ‘I know that work,'” he explained in an interview with Efe the deputy director of Conservation and Research of the Museo Nacional del Prado, Andrés Úbeda de los Cobos.

In total they make up the exhibition The Prado Museum in Mexico City more than 50 photographic reproductions of paintings from the Prado Museum.

“When it was possible (according to the size of the frames) each work was reproduced in full size, and when not, a part was chosen,” said the deputy director.

The selection includes works from the 16th to the 20th centuries and includes Spanish, French, German, Italian, Flemish paintings and “also some American work,” explained Úbeda de los Cobos.

Among the 55 images you can find recognizable names such as Las Meninas by Diego Velázquez, La Maja Naked or Saturn Devouring a Son by Francisco de Goya, El Cardenal by Rafael or The Garden of Earthly Delights by Bosco.

This exhibition had already traveled to several cities in America, but on this occasion it acquires a new dimension as it has had the collaboration of Mexican institutions and museums.

In addition, the location gives a meaning to the exhibition of approach to society and to people not necessarily interested or trained in the history of art.

“It is important (that it be done here) because is intended for a non-specialist audience, who is not knowledgeable or who has never necessarily shown a willingness to learn about painting ”, commented the deputy director.

In addition, he considered that the lighting conditions and the quality of the photographs allow us to observe details that even in the Prado Museum itself is more difficult to appreciate.

The photographs were taken at the Madrid museum, but were printed in Mexico with a group of experts from both countries that, for eight days, they were calibrating the quality of the images.

“I have just seen the exhibition and I can say that the quality is superb. A very good job has been done from the Mexican photomechanical workshops”, considered the expert.

At the pre-ribbon-cutting press conference that opened the exhibition, which It can be visited until January 16, Úbeda de los Cobos said that the third country from which its website receives the most visits is Mexico, only behind Spain and the United States.

The event was attended by the Spanish ambassador to Mexico, Juan López-Dóriga, who celebrated the collaboration between Spanish and Mexican institutions for the dissemination of art history.

“Spain and Mexico have a very special family relationship,” said the diplomat.

The Secretary of Culture of the Mexican capital, Vannesa Bohórquez, agreed with this, thanking the Prado Museum for this initiative with the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and through the Embassy of Spain in Mexico and its Cultural Center of Spain in the country.
